ACTIVE PLAYER CLARIFICATION (Updated 8/25) Mask Guidelines

The Mounds View Public School District issued a notification that all students, staff and visitors must wear a mask (regardless of vaccination status) while inside the District’s buildings effective Monday, August 23rd.

This requirement is based upon guidance provided to school districts from the Ramsey County Department of Public Health due to the sharp increase in COVID-19 cases within Minnesota.

The Mounds View Basketball Association (MVBA) is required to follow all requirements imposed by the facilities that we rent for our activities.  Coaches, Spectators, and Facilitators must wear a mask all of the time in MV District Facilities.

ACTIVE PLAYER CLARIFICATION:  Effective 8/25

"Players that are actively playing do not need to wear mask on the court.

HOWEVER - Masks are required at all times when players are watching or walking though the facilities. This includes all open gyms, tryout training sessions, tryouts, practices, games and other activities until further notice."

It can be reasonably assumed that masks will be required during the 2021-2022 basketball season for all  coaches and spectators. Mask guidelines for active players on the court will vary depending on the School District Facility policy.

At this time MV District Facilities will allow the active players to play without a mask for our practices and in-house or travel games; however, as we’ve seen over the past year, the requirements can change rapidly.

Thank you for your consideration and understanding while we navigate the changing conditions as the 2021-2022 season approaches.

FINAL TRAVELING TEAM PLACEMENT (2021-2022)

Thanks to all of the players, parents, and volunteers for making this week’s tryouts a huge success. We had a record number of kids try out for the boys and girls traveling teams. We will be selecting coaches over the next 30 days - so look for more information on the start of the Traveling season by 10/15/21.

The MVBA’s tryout philosophy is all about placing players on a team that represents their skill set and presents the best opportunity for them to compete, have fun, and develop as a player. As you talk to your players about the team placement - please keep these two things in mind:

  1. With our elevated tryout numbers, not everyone will make a traveling team. Every year we have players try out that are simply not ready to play at the traveling basketball level. That’s OK. Players that are put on an IH Team can still play basketball, have fun, and develop as a player. If you love to play basketball - keep playing basketball.

  2. Not everyone will make the team they want OR the team they think they should make OR t oGet on a team with their best friend. That’s OK. Your friends will still be your friends and you will make new friends on the team you make. If you love to play basketball - keep playing basketball.

*Remember - No matter what team you end up on - it’s just a snapshot in your basketball life. Develop as a player, have fun, and always be a student of the game every time you step on the court.

Parents and players - The MVBA Applauds you for supporting this philosophy.

MVBA Philosophy: Play, Compete, Learn

The Mounds View Basketball Association (MVBA) provides an opportunity for Boys & Girls to play, compete, and learn the game of basketball in an environment that emphasizes FUN, fundamentals, teamwork, sportsmanship, and development.

Although winning is fun, we believe winning is not an objective -

Winning is an outcome of dedication and commitment to team, hard work, and constant learning.

Always be a student of the Game
